FASCIA STRETCH THERAPY (FST)

WHAT IS FASCIA STRETCH THERAPY?

Fascia Stretch Therapy (FST) is a gentle, assisted stretching method that works with your body’s connective tissue system (fascia) to improve mobility, reduce pain, and restore natural movement.

Unlike traditional stretching that focuses on muscles, FST targets the entire fascial system (connective tissue, bones, muscles, nerves, joint capsules, blood/lymphatic vessels, organs, etc.) to help your body move more freely and efficiently.

HOW IS FST DIFFERENT FROM SELF-STRETCHING?

Key components of FST are the use of traction and compression to separate tissues that are stuck together and stabilize joints that have too much movement. Rather than simply stretch what “feels tight” , the goal is to rebalance bio-tensegrity(the body’s equilibrium of tension and compression) in the complete fascial system for better force distribution though all your joints so no one area receives too much strain.

WHO IS FST FOR?

FST is beneficial for people of all ages and activity levels, including:

  • Those experiencing chronic pain or tension

  • Athletes and active individuals of all levels

  • People recovering from injury or surgery

  • Anyone wanting to improve mobility, posture, or movement quality

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A FST-FOCUSED SESSION?

Consultation
We begin with a focused conversation to understand your body’s medical history, physical activity, & goals for your session.

Assessment
Subtle movement assessments help identify areas of restriction, imbalance, and compensation.

Treatment
You’ll relax on a treatment table while your body is guided through smooth, assisted, pain-free stretches. The work is rhythmic & intentional, designed to release fascial restrictions and restore fluid, effortless movement.

After Your Session
Most clients feel lighter, more open, and deeply relaxed. Mild soreness over the next day or 2 is possible.

Hydration with electrolytes is recommended before & after.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR FST?

Wear comfortable, flexible clothing (shorts, sweatpants, T-shirt, leggings, athletic wear).

Please avoid restrictive or bulky clothing, and PLEASE NO JEANS.

WHAT DOES FST FEEL LIKE?

FST is gentle and should not be painful. Most clients describe it as deeply relaxing, with a sense of stretch, release, and increased ease of movement.

The session involves smooth, rhythmic movements—such as gentle rocking, oscillating, and traction—that help the body relax and allow the tissue to unwind naturally. Many people find this rhythm calming to the nervous system, creating a feeling of lightness and flow throughout the body.

As the session progresses, you may notice areas softening, opening, or moving more freely. It’s common to feel both physically and mentally relaxed, with a greater sense of connection to your body.

If anything ever feels uncomfortable, it can be adjusted at any time to keep the experience safe, supported, and pain-free.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF FST?

  • Reduced pain & tension

  • Improved mobility & flexibility

  • Better posture & movement patterns

  • Enhanced recovery & performance

  • Nervous system relaxation

  • Blood/lymphatic circulation & immune boost

IS FST SAFE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH HYPERMOBILITY (HSD) OR EHLERS-DANLOS (EDS)?

Absolutely! As someone with hypermobility herself, Nelle benefits greatly from FST and receives it regularly.

Every individual with hypermobility is unique, so sessions are tailored to their specific needs. While hypermobile people don’t necessarily need to increase their range of motion, the intention with FST becomes improving joint stability, safe movement, and increasing proprioception.

Sessions are adjusted to reduce or eliminate traction, support joints, and address specific restrictions in joint capsules that prevent normal movement. With gentle, collaborative techniques and open communication, FST ensures safety and effectiveness.

If you experience post-session discomfort, share feedback with Nelle so adjustments can be made for your comfort and progress.

HOW DO ATHLETES BENEFIT FROM FST?

FST offers significant benefits for athletes beyond addressing pain.

By enhancing flexibility, FST helps prevent injuries commonly associated with sports and physical activities. It also effectively addresses postural imbalances, movement dysfunctions, improper muscle firing patterns, and neural dysfunctions—all of which can contribute to injury if left unaddressed.

In addition to improving circulation and reducing of inflammation, athletes will heal better and recover faster in between events and training so they are and can stay at the top of their game.
